I’m officially back in Colorado and the honeymoon is over! Nooooooo! I feel like I need to be planning for something now that the wedding is over. Is that why people have kids so quickly? To start planning for the next big moment in life? Well instead of being with child, I plan on being with a new backyard. It’s time to landscape. And then enjoy every night in the backyard instead of with a human growing inside me. Pretty pumped about that!

Anywho, let’s talk about last week because it was our wedding week for our destination wedding in Jamaica and IT WAS AWESOME! It was seriously so freaking amazing. I wouldn’t have changed a single thing…except for drinking too much and eating too little our wedding night. Poor choice on my part, but I was just so excited to party with everyone! Then I was in bed by 9:30. Nailed it.

The week was full of indulging in drinks and food, so I made sure to get a workout in most days. No matter if it was a 10 minute workout or 30 minute workout, I made sure to do something and sweat a little. Here’s the thing with CrossFit style workouts…you’re done with them really fast. You give them all you got then you’re done. So there’s really no excuse to not workout on vacation. I had multiple people tell me to not workout and just relax on vacation, but that doesn’t sound like a good time to me. I’ve been working out HARD for at least 7 years now so why would I throw it all away for just one vacation? That’s not my style. So I worked out in the morning (even on my wedding day), not as near as hard as I do at home, then moved on with my vacation by 8am. Vacation is all about taking care of your body and letting it rejuvenate and I personally think working out is part of that rejuvenation.

I wanted to make sure I felt great in my dress and in a bikini all week long. That goal hasn’t changed just because our wedding week is over. Now I’m just working out hard for my daily life. I want to feel good and know that I’m doing all I can on a regular basis to be there. So often I see people eat so clean and workout so hard before a big event like a wedding, then throw it all away afterwards. DON’T DO IT! Take care of your body because you are only given one body, one life, one intestinal tract. After your big event, keep up with the hard work and all the advances you’ve seen. The wedding, the reunion, the goal weight all may be over, but there is still a future out there. Keep kicking ass just to prove to yourself you can do it. YOU control your future, don’t forget that!

Thank-you so much for posting your vacation workouts. My husband and I leave Friday for a week in paradise at an all-inclusive so I will be putting these workouts to good use! Congratulations on your marriage. You looked beautiful!

My boyfriend has been travelling for work for the past two weeks and lamenting about the fact that he couldn’t work out. So I pulled up a couple of your travelling workouts and gave him a few….he LOVED THEM. He kept asking me where I was coming up with all of these great workouts…I would have LOVED to have let him think that I was a fitness genius, but I told him PaleOMG….I think that sold him.
Thanks Juli! And Congrats on your marriage!

Seriously loving all the workouts and clothes- but the motivational pep talks are my favorite. Even more so because I have my wedding later this year and you have the best mindset about having an overall healthy lifestyle and not just stressing/worrying/focusing on one day. Definitely going to keep these in mind when I need a little extra push 🙂

    Thanks for all you do!!

      hope your wedding is amazing!!

After an event that was keeping you going, its a good idea to find new motivation for staying healthy. And you rock for sharing these hotel-gym friendly workouts!

BUT, that being said, I don’t think taking a week off of working out for vacation is really “throwing away” 7 years of hard work by any means. I’m not trying to be negative, I just want add to this post.

I think it’s okay to let people know that you don’t have to work out on vacation if you don’t want to. I personally usually do because I think dropping into unfamiliar crossfit boxes is a blast, and i love the way i feel after a good sweat session. But I’ve also traveled to places and not had time to work out while there and it was fine. My body appreciated the de-load and time to repair.

i support whatever works best for other people, that’s why I don’t push CrossFit, I just recommend it since it worked for me. going on a vacation where you are drinking HEAVILY and eating HEAVILY (like me and all of my friends on the trip) i think should ABSOLUTELY have some exercise in it. if you are not overdoing it in that regard, I don’t think there is any shame in not working out and just letting your body heal itself from all the workout stress you put on it beforehand. i’ve done that for 5 days before when I’m on a work trip and eating normal. but when you’re piling it with bad things, you need to take care of it at the same time. just how i see it.

        Hey Juli,
Do you have any advice on how to be motivated to workout? Like what do you do when you honestly don’t want to workout because your’re feeling lazy? I’ve been trying to go to the gym everyday but it’s been hard with school and everything.

        1. juli says:

if you’re working out on a regular basis, you should still be taking rest days which can definitely help with motivation the next day. i rarely ever hate going to the gym because i take scheduled rest days so i’m ready to go the next day. and then when it’s time to workout, it’s just time to workout. i don’t question it much because i know my body needs it.

Thanks for this post Juli. And congrats on everything, you deserve it!
I’m trying really hard, my husband and I both are, to get back to full-on Paleo. It did so well for us in the past and then we let things like money and life get in the way… but back on track!
And I’m uber excited now because we are visiting Boulder/Denver area later this year and seeing and hearing about where you’ve ate lately has helped motivate me to find the best possible eateries whilst there. There are so many, there is no excuse to go (completely) off the wagon.
Maybe I’ll run into you… forgive me in advance if I go all fan-girl 🙂 Again, congrats!

    1. juli says:

hope you have so much fun in Denver! and hope it’s nice weather for you two!

I did your deadlift/burpee/jump lunge/sit up workout the day you instagrammed it. My husband and I were also on our honeymoon in Jamaica this past week, and I too feel like working out if part of that rest/relaxation/unwind experience when you have been doing it so long. Thanks for the great and quick workout! Now onto making one of your egg breakfast casseroles because I was craving our own homemade food after a few days of smart indulging!

    1. juli says:

that’s so cool you were in Jamaica too! it’s so freaking beautiful there!

  7. Amanda says:

Thank you for posting your travel wods and congrats to you both! I’m getting married in less than two weeks and then we are off to Hawaii! Looking forward to some R&R but want to make sure I don’t slack off on working out either!

I have a question/suggestion for a future blog post. I love that you are able to stay motivated to work out while on vacation! I always have the best intentions of doing workouts while on vacation and then never end up following through.

My question is – how do you decide what your workouts are going to be? Do you plan them out in advance (to the extent you can without knowing exact equipment availability)? Or do you make them up on the fly? How much ‘tweaking’ (if any) do you do once you have a workout in mind?

    Thanks!

So happy to hear your wedding was perfect (minus the drinking too much–totally happens)! Everything looked beautiful! Now simply embrace the quiet time post-wedding and just take it all in.
