Well gooooood morning! Today is such a better day because today I’m feeling sober and motivated after having way too much fun over the weekend. We had multiple double dates with friends, tried multiple restaurants, and had way too many multiple spicy margaritas. And yes, I know ‘too many multiple’ is not the best way to use my grammar skills correctly, but I’m still pushing though this hangover, ok? It’s so fun to go out with friends and try new places out and I definitely love myself a good spicy margarita at this point in my life, but man, I hate the hangover. It’s not like I even feel that sh*tty compared to my crazy drinking days of college, but I just feel like a worthless sack of potatoes. And grumpy AF. I don’t know how some of my friends do it every weekend, it seriously makes me feel like all my hard work in the gym has been for nothing.
I think this is a good reminder of how detrimental alcohol can be to your goals. I have friends and people at my gym constantly asking why they haven’t seen the results they’ve been hoping for after working so hard in the gym, and often it’s because of their weekends. Weekends and alcohol go hand in hand with many of our lives living in the city and we can often forget how highly caloric and sugary alcohol is since we are drinking those calories instead of eating them. People forget a shot of vodka has around 70 calories and a glass of white wine has around 130…and most people aren’t just having one shot or one glass. These calories and this amount of sugar really adds up, especially when these fun events and time with our friends go on every weekend.
Not long ago, I did a podcast about alcohol but I think it’s good to randomly give reminders to everybody out there that alcohol really does make a difference in your performance, your appearance, and your mental capacity. It may be legal, but fast food is also legal and we definitely shouldn’t be eating that sh*t. If you want the true results from your hard work in the gym and in the kitchen, it may be time to consider your alcohol consumption. Last time I talked about alcohol, a woman said that when she tried to kick her one glass of wine habit, she started eating sugar and gained weight. Well that’s sugar addiction right there, just going from one sugar addiction to another. And alcohol is obviously just addictive as sugar. So if you’re a normal person out there who loves to have your drinks, but is frustrated with your lack of results or even motivation, it may be time to consider the alcohol that is in your life. Just a simple reminder coming from a person who was reminded this past weekend that alcohol is just not good for you. Sucks, but it’s true.
Now let’s go get motivated this Monday and conquer our workouts and our time in the kitchen! Last weeks workouts were fun because I was able to do 4 different kinds of workouts. CrossFit, FIT, Orange Theory AND Barre HIIT. If you’re in Denver, definitely check out Barre HIIT at Barre Forte Lohi because it is such a fun workout. My butt is SO sore from it and I seriously can’t wait to do it again!

What I Ate in a Day:
Started my morning off with a cup of coffee, some heavy cream, a scoop of collagen and a little stevia extract. Then later on in the morning, I made a breakfast of Pederson Farms breakfast sausage, a few sweet plantains and leftover brussels sprouts!
Before I headed to a workout, I had a Maple Hill greek yogurt with a little bit of Purely Elizabeth gluten free granola.
After lunch, I had some food to-go from Modern Market with steak, sweet potatoes and vegetables!
Later on in the afternoon, I drank 1/2 a Bonafide drinkable veggie. Then I ate some Siete Foods tortilla chips while I made dinner.
For dinner, I made a chicken fried cauliflower rice meal and ate a bunch of the chicken while I was cooking it.

Sooo thanks to your blog and podcasts for extra inspiration–I made it through Cinco de Mayo (at a friend’s legit Mexican celebration), a wine tasting, an open bar at a wedding, family dinner, and a friend BBQ drinking a total of 1 margarita and 1.5 glasses of wine! I have had decent nutrition lately but my alcohol allowance for myself has gone up and I was sleeping poorly, feeling sluggish, and just downright pissed at myself. I reminded myself of all of these things all weekend when FREE alcohol was offered multiple times and I was able to successfully navigate all of these social events with minimal drinking. And I’m down a pound today from Friday! It definitely helps to have the worth it vs not worth it discussion in your brain before drinking anything, and remembering specific awful side effects.
Where do you get the Bonafide drinking veggie?
i know the owner so she sent me those in the mail!
I completely agree with you on consuming alcohol and how it affects your workout and results. In January I started a nutrition program and cut out alcohol completely for 12 weeks. I’ve had a few drinks since at special occasion like my birthday but I feel so good not drinking anymore. I live in Denver and my husband and I own a CrossFit gym in Lowry , I workout a lot but now that I’m not drinking an eating right I’ve lost 20 pounds and have seen amazing results at the gym too.
that’s so awesome!! good work!!
I’ve been hearing a lot about Bonafide lately and totally wish I had a place near me to purchase it! I also love brussel sprouts for breakfast.
This post couldn’t have come at better time! Celebrating Cinco de Mayo and an early Mother’s day mimosa brunch with my family has left me feeling bloated and just blah. I can definitely relate to you in that I don’t often drink often because I hate how it makes me feel, and I immediately feel like everything I’ve done in the gym or with my diet that week is completely wasted. But being in my 20’s, I get a lot of shit from friends who think it’s weird that I don’t like to drink and party all the time. Thanks for the reminder! Love your content and especially look forward to your Saturday podcasts. Keep doing what you do!
thanks for the support, kendra!
I hear you on the alcohol. I just sort of naturally eliminated it from my diet over fall and winter. I think it was more the ritual of having something “different” at the end of the day for me and of course, a social thing as well.
Kombucha and water kefir have become my end of the day ritual instead of alcohol. However, the weather is finally getting warm in Wisconsin and I’ve been craving alcoholic drinks on the patio left and right the last few weeks. And guess what? I feel like crap. Why can’t more places serve kombucha and mocktail drinks not filled with sugary crap?! 😉
I’m new to following you. Thanks for sharing workouts you do when traveling. Do you recommend any types of equipment? For example, bands or jump rope?
yeah both are great to have on hand when traveling!
Hi, Juli! I’ve heard a lot about Bone broth. Never drank it. Need to try it as it’s great are maintaining Calcium levels.
I’m in the middle of removing eggs from my diet. Since eggs are the majority of breakfast items, what are some of your go to iteam for breakfast? Meat, sausages Veggies? I just need all the idea! ????
