As I wake up this morning, I’m feeling less than motivated about working out. There has been some changes going down at my own gym that have me pretty bummed and feeling lost. That gym has been my second home for years now, it’s been one of the main reasons I fell in love with working out and why I have continued to work so hard in the gym. And with the changes that are happening, I’ve lost some of that motivation and my heart is a little broken. It’s a weird place to be at the moment.

But life is a series of continuous changes. One day we think things are going exactly the way we want them to, and the next we are walking around lost and feeling broken. And those feelings can lead to less motivation in many aspects of our lives. Whether that’s our relationships, friendships, motivation, or emotional stability. Whatever the case may be, it can be hard to find a new rhythm.

When things change, it’s our own responsibility to pick up the pieces we have left and move forward. It’s so easy to give up on our motivation and stay idle. But if you can be the person who accepts change, embraces the suck and makes a new path for themselves, than you will never lose that motivation you have inside of you.

We can look for motivation everywhere, but at the end of the day, it comes within us. We create our own motivation and we have the responsibility to change with the times and accept that motivation may look different as we grow. It all may sound so weird as I spout this crap, but all I’m trying to say is that we can motivate ourselves every day, as long as we remember that we are the sole responsibility of our own hard work and perseverance. Keep pushing yourself and challenging yourself daily even when motivation is limited. You’ll find a new rhythm.

What I Ate in a Day:

Started my day off with a Vanilla Bean Sweet Cream Collagen Iced Coffee

For breakfast, I had leftovers from dinner the night before. I made some taco rice bowls – Red and yellow bell peppers and onion cooked in garlic ghee, then ground beef, taco seasonings, hot sauce, lime juice, red pepper flakes, cauliflower rice then topped it with green onions, pickled jalapeños, and salsa!

Around 11am, I had a small iced coffee with a splash of heavy cream.

For lunch, I had the prime steak tips hash from Hashtag. I asked for no eggs on mine and asked for veggies! This meal was SO BOMB.

A few hours later, I had a beet juice from Whole Foods that has beets, carrots, parsnip, lemon and turmeric in it. I seriously cannot get enough of this juice. It’s amazing!

About an hour later, I had a handful of raisins and probably 8-10 Simple Mills sundried tomato crackers.

For dinner, I made ranch steak cooked in ghee, MM Local green chile sauerkraut, kale cooked in ghee, lemon juice and adobo seasonings, and crinkle cut butternut squash (I find it in the produce section of Whole Foods – its called culinary cuts) that I tossed in olive oil and cooked at 400 degrees until crispy, maybe 25-30 min!

After dinner, I had 3 medium pieces of Taza Coconut & Almond Chocolate Bark.

They also have the crinkle cut butternut squash at Trader Joe’s. I was SO EXCITED to see it. Yay, butternut fries that don’t involve me peeling and slicing the squash myself, yaaaay!

I am sorry for the shakeup at your gym. That sucks. I appreciate your attitude, though. These things are going to happen, and we have to keep going. I have been losing motivation with the program at my gym lately too, and it helps to know someone else is pushing through the same thing.

Ugh, I know the feeling when things change and it kind of lessens your motivation. Hopefully, you find a new groove soon! PS reading your what I ate foods has got me craving sauerkraut with every meal! Especially with Teton waters sausages!

As always your Monday posts inspire me and give me a renew sense of ‘let’s just make the best’ mindset. Thank you and good luck with the gym situation. It’s hard when a place you love so much is changing. Hoping for the best for you.

Is it hilarious that you answered my question on your podcast and it literally made my day! Love it. I have been reading your blog for like 5 years now. You are the tits. On the podcast you basically told me that you just don’t give a fuck what people think and I love that advice. It’s what my dad would say to me to. I have tried and stopped “blogging” like 2 times. Legit. I can’t figure out why it is so difficult for me to push past that initial “omfg this is scary and I feel so vulnerable” phase but I think I have to. You know that “icky” phase where everyone else’s’ blog is beautiful and established and you are just figuring your shit out. I work a full time job and I have a child (single mom). I work out every night at my CF gym so my time is pretty limited. Do you have any advice for someone in this stage of wanting to start adding value and putting stuff out there? I honestly should just say fuck it and do it already because seriously… yolo. But I would love to hear what you have to say about it all.

here’s the thing, even when your blog is PERFECT you’ll still see others and wish yours was better. we all compare no matter what and want to improve so you might as well just get after it and start working hard. you can continue to improve over time but i’ve found that people come to a site for the content not perfection.

I’m having the same experience at my gym!!! They dropped their crossfit affiliate for OPEx and individual programming. So my husband and I had to pick up the pieces and find somewhere new. The gym is our second home and a big part of our lives. We had amazing coaches and loved it there. So I can relate… change is hard.

it’s so upsetting and tough for sure

Gym changes are the worst, especially when it’s your happy place. I loved our old coach and our programming, and when both of those changed (not so much for the better) it caused quite a funk for me for awhile. This post is really helpful & motivating. Hope things get better at your gym, Juli! Thanks always for being transparent and so positive for us!

I feel the same about some changes in my Crossfit gym… I feel your pain!
Still, have a wonderful day 🙂

Love this Julie and today I needed it. I had a baby 2 months ago. I went back to work this week and I’m trying to figure out how to keep everything flowing smoothly and still do some of the things I enjoy especially working out. I will find my new rhythm! Love your blog!

      you definitely will!
