Happy Monday, you go-getters! I hope your Monday is off to an amazing start filled with delicious food and some motivation to get after it! Today, instead of going on and on about motivational stuff, I want to hear from you guys today! My blog has really evolved over the years because of readers. When people ask me to share something, I do it! Which is where my Weekly Workouts posts came from, then my Fashion Friday posts, and now my podcast! So I want to hear from you – what do YOU want to see within my Weekly Workouts posts? I started sharing workouts a long time ago then evolved it into sharing travel workouts, what I ate in a day, music and even on sale fitness apparel.

So what else would YOU like to see or hear about? Leave your comments below and I’ll be jotting them down so you can get the most out of your Weekly Workouts post every week! Can’t wait to hear from you guys!

What I Ate in a Day While Traveling:

People always ask how I eat clean while traveling or say that they find it impossible to. But honestly, I’ve never found it impossible. Sure, I go to cities that have more options, but I also just make the best choices I can, no matter where I am. I get eggs for breakfast, no bread at lunch or dinner, no dessert with grains, I try not to drink much, and I just make things work. No, I don’t worry about cooking oils because that would drive me crazy, I just make the best choices I can wherever I’m at. So here’s a little glance inside one of my days in San Francisco last week. Sorry for some of the ugly photos but it was either early in the morning or in a super dark room, there was no saving these photos.

When I woke up at 5:30am to finish up my blog post for the day, I was pretty hungry so I ate a larabar that I brought with me for the trip (along with other snacks). Then I started my day off with room service around 7am. All they had were omelettes when it came to clean choices so I ordered one with spinach, caramelized onion, mushrooms and feta and it came with a side of potatoes. I almost finished it all but not quite, but I did finish all the potatoes (even though I knew they were fried, obviously).

Since my breakfast was pretty dang large, I didn’t need a snack before lunch at 12pm. We were able to grab snacks if we needed earlier in the day but I just didn’t feel hungry like some of the other people did. I think it comes down to eating such a good amount at breakfast. At lunch we had a menu that was already created for us. So I got a glass of white wine, then salad with a light vinaigrette on it, and when we had a choice of steak or pasta, I obviously got the steak! The server had a pretty heavy hand when it came to refilling our wine so I finally had to stop drinking it just so he wouldn’t refill it and I wouldn’t be the drunk of the group.

After our meal, they served dessert. It was some kind of cake so I just ate the whipped cream on the side along with the strawberries and candies on the other side of the cake, and just left the cake alone!

After lunch and listening to some panels, we hopped in our bus back to the hotel and were greeted by these little coffees on our car seats. I drank a couple sips of this one since I wanted a tiny pick-me-up but also wanted to sleep that night, too. It was really tasty!

img_0555

Once we got back to our hotel rooms, we had 2 hours to chill out and clean up before dinner, so I worked on the blog more and ate a handful of plantain chips that I brought with me then got ready for dinner. If you’re wondering how to stay your healthier on trips, bring snacks. Once we got to dinner, I was asked if I had any allergies and I told them gluten. This restaurant was a Mexican restaurant so they only had to change out a few things since everything they made was made of corn. No, corn is not paleo, but it doesn’t upset my stomach. So we had this little corn appetizers, one with bean and cheese and the other with some sort of ceviches.

img_0563

Then we had this crazy taco that was made from a homemade corn tortilla then bone marrow butter, an extremely roasted yam and salt on top. It was bomb!

img_0564

Last but not least, the sexiest pic of all, this giant fix with some sort of chimichurri on top. It was pretty good! Pretty ugly, but pretty good.

Everyone was getting drinks at this restaurant because they had really good cocktails, but since I had some wine at lunch, I passed on the drinks. I keep those things in mind when traveling because a drink at each meal can add up really quickly.

Still laughing at your snaps this morning… I freaking love you! Keep up your great content. I’m a fairly new follower of you and can relate to all of it so well. Late twenties, married with a fur child, fitness and food fanatic, and trying to up my fashion/beauty game aka not live in my cute workout clothes 24/7. And my husband loves to ignore me on football sundays also haha!

Hi! i just wanted to say that I discovered your blog about a month ago and I love it. I recently bought your book and every recipe has been a hit in my home and I am the only one trying to be “mostly” paleo. Any way, my comment is really a question. I’ve noticed that your weekly workouts do not focus too much on cardio. Do you think that the way you workout would be good for weight loss? (I would love to lose about 15lbs). Also, do you keep track of caloric intake, macros, or calories burned in a workout? If so, that would be a great option to include in your weekly workout posts! Thanks!

    1. juli says:

i mean, i lost 30 pounds doing strictly crossfit, so yes, it’s very possible. you build muscle with crossfit, crossfit improves metabolism, better metabolism helps with weight loss. and no, i do not keep track of calories or calories burned and i don’t know how to track macros!

I would love to see explanations of the crossfit workouts…I feel like crossfit uses a lot of lingo, and since I don’t do crossfit, it is hard for me to understand what you did/see if I could modify it to do it at my gym.

I also love the at home workouts you share, and I do them sometimes so keep sharing those-they are great!

I would love to see a post about the different snacks you prefer and where you get them. Also a plus if they are something I could order online since I live in a weird place. Thanks!

    Hi Juli!

I have to say, you are hands down my favorite blogger. I also live in Denver so it’s awesome hearing your go-to spots in the area for food &fitness.

A couple questions: what is your take on the new ketosis craze that’s recently come onto the scene especially in the paleosphere?? Do you think that eating that low carb is safe/healthy for women (especially very active women)?

Thanks for all your helpful and hilarious posts- also digging the podcast so far! ????

    1. juli says:

i did keto for a long time when i first started (I just didn’t know it was called that) but for me, i ended up gaining weight. i don’t think i do well with a diet like that with the exercise i do. so i say whatever works for you, but it’s not my thing. i do really well with having carbs such as potatoes and rice on a regular basis, but that may changes some day.

I love your skincare posts… all things health and beauty… products you love; adventures with treatments; real unedited feedback on treatments… all that. LOVE! Our skin is numero uno and, imo, goes hand in hand with wellness. You are what you eat and your skin is a direct reflection. So, I really enjoy learning about products and treatments. But, I can only imagine the insane negative feedback these sorts of posts generate which is hard to deal with. Honestly, can’t imagine. People are weird and ugly and nasty and say some effed up sh*t. Trolls. But, this gal loves your beauty posts. Tx mucho for putting you sh*t out there, love and admire it!

    1. juli says:

hahaha you have no idea, so thank you for the support! you have no idea how much it means!

  7. Jessica says:

Hi Julie! I’ve done crossfit for about two years but recently signed up at a “big box” gym for various reasons and the body weight / travel workouts you’ve been posting have been so helpful! As for other ideas for what to include in your workout posts..maybe a post about the community aspect of crossfit? It’s probably what I miss most about it. Also kind of random but have you ever considered doing a Spartan Race? I am doing my first one in January and I’ve always thought crossfit was the ultimate way to prep for that sort of thing. I bet you would kick butt at it!

    1. juli says:

i’ve never done a spartan race but i did tough mudder once and trained for it just by doing crossfit! it’s definitely the best sort of training!

  8. Erica says:

I’d really like to learn more about HOW you create your workouts, and workout programming in general. Obviously you have a lot of knowledge and experience from being a Crossfit coach. I love how you were able to fill a whole section of Cassy’s book with free workouts and then continue to create them every week and whenever you travel, I’d love to learn how to do the same. Especially because if I come up with them myself I could tailor the workouts to my goals and available equipment.

An “Ask Juli” or reader mailbag would also be cool though that might be more fun for a podcast 🙂

    1. Sarah says:

I luvvvvv both of these ideas! Just wanted to second Erica’s post. And keep doing you Juli! Paleomg keeps getting better and better!!

    2. juli says:

i honestly think it just comes from experience. when i was competing, we would create workouts every day so it was a lot of trial and error and learning what the body could handle. i also have an amazing coach at my gym and i have learned a lot from him and continue to learn a lot from him. so i program based on workouts i’ve done, seen and then try! then i see what’s going on with the body, where it’s sore and how to manage that. so it’s just experience more than anything!

    Juli,
I finally had a chance to listen to your first podcast where you explain your background. Thank you for being real and honest and not a “know it all”. The reason I say that is I get the vibe from some folks that since I have no clue how to work out, I am destined to be a weakling forever. I just joined a gym and really would like to know some Fitness 101 moves to get myself started cause I’m feeling pretty intimidated. Like you in the beginning, I’d love to be able to finally do a real pushup or pull-up some day. I got goals!! I’ve taken the last 9 months to get my eating under control and have been feeling better about that so I’m ready to tackle the gym. Baby steps for me. So any newbie gym tips to get started would be greatly appreciated! Love all your posts! Keep them coming!
    Pam

    1. Anna Henderson says:

I second this! I just joined a gym this month for the first time since college, and have been using your free travel workouts as a guide. I LOVE that you’ve been incorporating videos in these posts, so I’d like to see more of those! I’m having to Google some terms from time to time, and am still at a bit of a loss when it comes to choosing weights. But yeah, you’re basically my personal trainer right now.

      1. juli says:

they’ll definitely be there every Monday!

    2. juli says:

just concentrate on form. don’t get wrapped up in all the numbers and times at first, just concentrate on perfect movements. better movements lead to better lifts which lead to PR’s and improvement. if something feels weird, it probably is. so voice that to your coach and make sure they are watching out for you!

  10. Lorie says:

I was wondering when you have a cold, do you still workout or give yourself the day to rest?

    1. juli says:

it all depends on how sick i am. spreading disease is not exactly a cool thing to do, but if i’m starting to get better and i’m not contagious anymore, than i’ll go in for something light. but at the end of the day, bodies need rest to heal so you have to make sure you take care of yourself (and others)
