Happy Monday, you go-getters! I hope your Monday is off to an amazing start filled with delicious food and some motivation to get after it! Today, instead of going on and on about motivational stuff, I want to hear from you guys today! My blog has really evolved over the years because of readers. When people ask me to share something, I do it! Which is where my Weekly Workouts posts came from, then my Fashion Friday posts, and now my podcast! So I want to hear from you – what do YOU want to see within my Weekly Workouts posts? I started sharing workouts a long time ago then evolved it into sharing travel workouts, what I ate in a day, music and even on sale fitness apparel.
So what else would YOU like to see or hear about? Leave your comments below and I’ll be jotting them down so you can get the most out of your Weekly Workouts post every week! Can’t wait to hear from you guys!

What I Ate in a Day While Traveling:
People always ask how I eat clean while traveling or say that they find it impossible to. But honestly, I’ve never found it impossible. Sure, I go to cities that have more options, but I also just make the best choices I can, no matter where I am. I get eggs for breakfast, no bread at lunch or dinner, no dessert with grains, I try not to drink much, and I just make things work. No, I don’t worry about cooking oils because that would drive me crazy, I just make the best choices I can wherever I’m at. So here’s a little glance inside one of my days in San Francisco last week. Sorry for some of the ugly photos but it was either early in the morning or in a super dark room, there was no saving these photos.
When I woke up at 5:30am to finish up my blog post for the day, I was pretty hungry so I ate a larabar that I brought with me for the trip (along with other snacks). Then I started my day off with room service around 7am. All they had were omelettes when it came to clean choices so I ordered one with spinach, caramelized onion, mushrooms and feta and it came with a side of potatoes. I almost finished it all but not quite, but I did finish all the potatoes (even though I knew they were fried, obviously).
Since my breakfast was pretty dang large, I didn’t need a snack before lunch at 12pm. We were able to grab snacks if we needed earlier in the day but I just didn’t feel hungry like some of the other people did. I think it comes down to eating such a good amount at breakfast. At lunch we had a menu that was already created for us. So I got a glass of white wine, then salad with a light vinaigrette on it, and when we had a choice of steak or pasta, I obviously got the steak! The server had a pretty heavy hand when it came to refilling our wine so I finally had to stop drinking it just so he wouldn’t refill it and I wouldn’t be the drunk of the group.
After our meal, they served dessert. It was some kind of cake so I just ate the whipped cream on the side along with the strawberries and candies on the other side of the cake, and just left the cake alone!
After lunch and listening to some panels, we hopped in our bus back to the hotel and were greeted by these little coffees on our car seats. I drank a couple sips of this one since I wanted a tiny pick-me-up but also wanted to sleep that night, too. It was really tasty!
Once we got back to our hotel rooms, we had 2 hours to chill out and clean up before dinner, so I worked on the blog more and ate a handful of plantain chips that I brought with me then got ready for dinner. If you’re wondering how to stay your healthier on trips, bring snacks. Once we got to dinner, I was asked if I had any allergies and I told them gluten. This restaurant was a Mexican restaurant so they only had to change out a few things since everything they made was made of corn. No, corn is not paleo, but it doesn’t upset my stomach. So we had this little corn appetizers, one with bean and cheese and the other with some sort of ceviches.
Then we had this crazy taco that was made from a homemade corn tortilla then bone marrow butter, an extremely roasted yam and salt on top. It was bomb!
Last but not least, the sexiest pic of all, this giant fix with some sort of chimichurri on top. It was pretty good! Pretty ugly, but pretty good.
Everyone was getting drinks at this restaurant because they had really good cocktails, but since I had some wine at lunch, I passed on the drinks. I keep those things in mind when traveling because a drink at each meal can add up really quickly.

Love your blog and that you’ve started to do podcasts! I love your skincare posts, anything beauty related, and your travel workouts. Like another commenter I am also just starting (again) my fitness journey and would appreciate some beginner tips. And the idea for Q&A posts sounds neat too. Thanks for continuing to create such great content!
Great timing with your question! I was going to drop you a note to thank you for your weekly workout posts! I have been cooking your food for years, but have recently left crossfit in order to save some money, and just workout at home. I recently went through your at home/ travel workouts you have at the bottom of each Monday post, wrote them down on index cards, and just randomly pick one each morning. So not only do you have tons of FREE recipes (and I support you by buying your cookbooks), but now I have tons of FREE workouts to do at home. Couldn’t thank you enough!!! You are amazing.
glad i could help, penny!
One other idea…do you still ride your beach cruiser? The reason I ask is because I get around on my bike and I am constantly looking for outfits that I can wear when using my bike for transportation (or walking!). Now that it is getting cooler out I don’t sweat all over my bike clothes so I always want clothes that I can wear on my bike but then continue to wear at work or at a restaurant or similar. I wear regular clothes not gym clothes on my bicycle but a lot of the stuff you wear like mules and long sweaters and fitted skirts can’t work on a bike. Any ideas for being simultaneously active and fashionable would be so welcome, I feel like I always have to choose one or the other and your blog occupies a neat intersection between the two (I can’t say that about other fashion blogs!) so it’d be a great home for those kind of posts 🙂
I discovered your blog about a month ago and I love and really appreciate all of your posts/recipes/fashion/ and updates. I bought all of your cookbooks on Amazon and have really taken to the most recent one. Love the jalapeño chili, maple bacon pork loin is AMAZE, frittata recipe on point, and the slow cooker cuban pork was to die for. I also love your fashion posts- you look stunning in everything and I ordered [and am patiently waiting for] the gray dress with scarf from mod cloth that you put up. My advice? Just keep doing what you’re doing. I enjoy reading your posts and have loved making and eating every single recipe so far! :):)
awwwww thanks so much for the support, Jenna!
I would love to see what you buy on an average grocery store trip or what you get from Thrive Market – not necessarily staple items, just what you got that week. Love the blog & ALL the many topics you cover!
i’ll definitely think about putting together a post about a normal grocery store trip but it’s always different since i’m constantly cooking new things for the blog! but there are definitely some staples i grab! and i honestly only buy the staple items from Thrive that I talk about here in this post: https://paleomg.com/a-free-bottle-of-organic-coconut-aminos-just-for-you/
Second this! Would also like to see a “What’s in my Fridge/Freezer” post.
(Sorry if this is a repost, I keep getting a captcha error!)
love it! added it to the list!
Second this! And/Or one of those “what’s in my fridge” posts.
These are always my favourite posts! I travel a lot for work so I always look on here for workouts when I am out of town!
I have been wanting to ask you this for a while- I know you have mentioned a lot about how you didn’t enjoy all of the muscle you gained through crossfit and therefore switched your training accordingly. I feel like I am at that stage now and am wondering what your next steps were. I know you talked about how you now go lighter with your weights but was there anything you did immediately until you reached the size you were comfortable with?
not really, i just cut back in weights, stop worrying about my weight so much (decreased my stress), and added in more carbs. that way loss took over 3 years so it’s not something that happened immediately, i just kept trucking along and body changes occurred. not sure if you saw this post but i talk more about it in detail here: https://paleomg.com/top-ways-to-lose-weight-maintain-balance-w-michaela-north/
I’m cool with all the current “series” posts but I’m definitely the person who is all over the “5-ingredient” type of recipes. Or recipes that are fast! I hate meal prepping but i do it weekly. Maybe some meal prep friendly recipes for those of us who are super super busy. OR more recipes that take very little time to prep that i can throw together on a week night.
Thanks!!!
(p.s i had a lot of trouble with your captcha generator giving me errors!)
Hi Juli! Love all your posts, snapchats, and podcasts – have been reading your blog for years! I recently started becoming more consistent with working out, and would love to hear about what you do to recover from workouts (if anything, and I don’t necessarily mean protein powder here) as well as how you ensure that one rest day does not become 2 or 3. I do not mean that from a motivational sense, but rather soreness. I often feel that still being particularly sore is what keeps me from getting back into working out the day after a rest day.
Keep being your amazing self!
i totally get that. i try to create a schedule for myself that i’ve figured out over time that works for me. so i do 3 days on, 1 day off, 2 days on, 1 day off. that seems to work best for me. so even when i’m really sore, i get back in and back to moving knowing i have a rest day soon. and often, the movement helps with my soreness. it really does help to move more when it comes to lactic acid build up and inflammation!
I love, love, love your blog! I just completed a Whole30 and I really credit you for a lot of the success. Your Buffalo Chicken Casserole and Spaghetti Pizza Pie were regulars. I’m settling into a nice routine and attitude about food now. Again, a lot thanks to your attitude of treat yourself if you want, NBD, then move on. I’m not controlled by food. It’s liberating!
Anywho, I’m a 31 year old nurse practitioner who works full-time AND has an infant. I’m married and we have a dog as well. In short, I have many responsibilities and time is so precious to me. I’ve nailed down eating healthy (the secret: meal prep, meal prep, meal prep) and now I’m working on exercising regularly. I would love to do a Crossfit gym but I just can’t. I don’t care about cost, it’s more about time. Maybe when kids are older and I don’t feel guilty leaving them in the evenings or when I’m not so exhausted (and not breastfeeding) and I can get up for a 515 AM class. So instead, I’m making changes and not excuses. I just ordered 15# dumbbells (I have lighter ones too) and a 25# kettlebell and I’m planning on doing at-home workouts.
I would love for you to provide some sort of scheduling advice for those of us who can’t make it to a gym. If we have all of the equipment and know the basic moves, then how should we make up a schedule? Your travel workouts are awesome and I’m going to start doing some of them this week. I will prob sub high knees or jump rope for the sprinting portion so I won’t have to go inside and outside at 530 AM. Maybe Fet & Fit is a good place to start?
Thanks again for your wit and sensible, no-nonsense approach to fitness.
fed & fit is definitely an amazing place to start because she has every day all scheduled out!! i bet that would be super helpful!!
I’d like to know about your invisalin (sp?) Treatment! Possibly after you’re done. I’m so curious why you got them, you have a lovely smile! The pros and cons, before and after! Overall i love your transformational posts, about makeup, fashion, and skincare, especially your treatments that you went through…my skin is a disaster.
definitely planning to have a post about that as soon as i’m done!
