Happy Monday, you go-getters! I hope your Monday is off to an amazing start filled with delicious food and some motivation to get after it! Today, instead of going on and on about motivational stuff, I want to hear from you guys today! My blog has really evolved over the years because of readers. When people ask me to share something, I do it! Which is where my Weekly Workouts posts came from, then my Fashion Friday posts, and now my podcast! So I want to hear from you – what do YOU want to see within my Weekly Workouts posts? I started sharing workouts a long time ago then evolved it into sharing travel workouts, what I ate in a day, music and even on sale fitness apparel.

So what else would YOU like to see or hear about? Leave your comments below and I’ll be jotting them down so you can get the most out of your Weekly Workouts post every week! Can’t wait to hear from you guys!

What I Ate in a Day While Traveling:

People always ask how I eat clean while traveling or say that they find it impossible to. But honestly, I’ve never found it impossible. Sure, I go to cities that have more options, but I also just make the best choices I can, no matter where I am. I get eggs for breakfast, no bread at lunch or dinner, no dessert with grains, I try not to drink much, and I just make things work. No, I don’t worry about cooking oils because that would drive me crazy, I just make the best choices I can wherever I’m at. So here’s a little glance inside one of my days in San Francisco last week. Sorry for some of the ugly photos but it was either early in the morning or in a super dark room, there was no saving these photos.

When I woke up at 5:30am to finish up my blog post for the day, I was pretty hungry so I ate a larabar that I brought with me for the trip (along with other snacks). Then I started my day off with room service around 7am. All they had were omelettes when it came to clean choices so I ordered one with spinach, caramelized onion, mushrooms and feta and it came with a side of potatoes. I almost finished it all but not quite, but I did finish all the potatoes (even though I knew they were fried, obviously).

Since my breakfast was pretty dang large, I didn’t need a snack before lunch at 12pm. We were able to grab snacks if we needed earlier in the day but I just didn’t feel hungry like some of the other people did. I think it comes down to eating such a good amount at breakfast. At lunch we had a menu that was already created for us. So I got a glass of white wine, then salad with a light vinaigrette on it, and when we had a choice of steak or pasta, I obviously got the steak! The server had a pretty heavy hand when it came to refilling our wine so I finally had to stop drinking it just so he wouldn’t refill it and I wouldn’t be the drunk of the group.

After our meal, they served dessert. It was some kind of cake so I just ate the whipped cream on the side along with the strawberries and candies on the other side of the cake, and just left the cake alone!

After lunch and listening to some panels, we hopped in our bus back to the hotel and were greeted by these little coffees on our car seats. I drank a couple sips of this one since I wanted a tiny pick-me-up but also wanted to sleep that night, too. It was really tasty!

Once we got back to our hotel rooms, we had 2 hours to chill out and clean up before dinner, so I worked on the blog more and ate a handful of plantain chips that I brought with me then got ready for dinner. If you’re wondering how to stay your healthier on trips, bring snacks. Once we got to dinner, I was asked if I had any allergies and I told them gluten. This restaurant was a Mexican restaurant so they only had to change out a few things since everything they made was made of corn. No, corn is not paleo, but it doesn’t upset my stomach. So we had this little corn appetizers, one with bean and cheese and the other with some sort of ceviches.

img_0563

Then we had this crazy taco that was made from a homemade corn tortilla then bone marrow butter, an extremely roasted yam and salt on top. It was bomb!

img_0564

Last but not least, the sexiest pic of all, this giant fix with some sort of chimichurri on top. It was pretty good! Pretty ugly, but pretty good.

Everyone was getting drinks at this restaurant because they had really good cocktails, but since I had some wine at lunch, I passed on the drinks. I keep those things in mind when traveling because a drink at each meal can add up really quickly.

    Hi Juli,

Thank you for all of your great blog posts, I definitely enjoy reading on the regular! What I’d be curious to see a post on is how to modify your exercise program when coming back from an injury. Personally for me, I’m dealing with a really crappy knee injury from running so doing any intense lower body moves for me is out right now but I can still focus on core/upper body. I don’t do crossfit but I do find your at home workouts super helpful when I do strength training at the gym. I loved your insta the other day where you showed some modifications which got me thinking about a modifications for injuries post…nothing super specific but maybe more general guidelines or a few go-to at home workouts that focus on various body areas and leave out others. I know full body is best…but when it’s not an options, having something to do in the meantime would be great! Otherwise, keep up the fashion and beauty posts! 🙂

Hi Juli! I love your blog and all of the content – I feel like you really cover it all, but I definitely love the what I ate posts since I am always looking for new ideas and to benchmark how much I eat in a day.

I have kind of a random request – is it possible to add “Previous Post” and “Next Post” links to your blogs? Sometimes I get caught up reading a post while searching for recipes and really want to see the post right before or after! Just an idea 🙂

got the next post and previous post up! hope that helps with searching the site!

SO excited about this! Thank you for doing that – you’re the best! 🙂

I have been doing crossfit/paleo for about a year now…however I feel like my waistline is getting bigger! Do you think i might be eating too much fat? I do cheat a little on weekends but try and keep it 80/20. I have eaten differently before and my abs were very visible, but I love the way eating paleo makes me feel. Maybe I should work out more? I do crossfit about 4-5 times a week. HELP!!

    1. juli says:

Lauren, i can’t give you that kind of advice. i’ve never met you in person, know nothing about your personal life or things that could add to stress in your life, know nothing about your eating habits or workouts or weight lifting or sleep schedule. and that’s not my place. working with a personal trainer or someone you know personally is going to be more helpful than chatting to someone over the internet who doesn’t know anything about you! i’m sorry!

Thank you so much for posting your travel workouts! I travel a lot for work and sometimes get overwhelmed by the idea of creating something to do. I did the tuck jump workout this morning and it was awesome. However, I was all “i can jump as high as Juli!!” (competition drives me) and then laughed at myself because my abs arent the same. Anyways, it was funny and made my morning. Love your blog lady!

I love 5-ingredient meals, would love to see what a typical grocery trip looks like for you, or if you’re feeling WILD- I’d love to see what a week of eating looks like for you! Maybe for your next podcast, you could discuss how to eat paleo on a budget?

Hey Juli! Love the blog and the podcast! Thanks for so much fun inspiring content. I would love to hear a podcast or blog about any books you really like, hear about what cookbooks are go-to in your kitchen, or even self help type books that you may have run into that really inspired you!

    1. juli says:

i’ll keep that in mind! i rarely cook from cookbooks unless i’m reviewing a book just because i’m coming up with recipes so often, i don’t really have time to cook from others. and i haven’t read any self help books (i did read the 5 love languages years ago and thought that was great!)

I would like to see some videos explaining what an exercise is and how to do it with proper form. I started doing FitRanX in Feb. and really enjoy the workouts but I don’t know the terms for all of the diff. exercises. When you post your workouts, I’m often confused about certain things you have listed. For instance, I don’t know what AMRAP is. Or a thruster.

    1. juli says:

that may have to come in an ebook in the future!

I am absolutely loving your podcast! You are my absolute hero for not losing your shit on this disgusting person on your flight. Absolute yuck.

Per your glowing recommendation I will be checking out Serial. Podcasts are my go to for running and commuting to work – current favorites are Happier by Gretchen Ruben, Stuff You Should Know, and the occasional How Did This Get Made (Which are discussions on how “crappy” movies came to exist. Hysterical!)

    Have a wonderful day!

when you talk about adding back in food that makes you feel good and helps you see the positive changes you want.. how long did it take you to know after adding back in that food? for example, you’ve talked about how you cut back on sweet potatoes and added back in regular potatoes … and how you added back in rice… etc… i understand the immediate feeling you get right after you eat it, but i’m talking more about changes to your body (whether weight loss or anything else)… how long did you ‘experiment’ with say, regular potatoes, before you realized your body was reacting positively and you were seeing positive changes?

that was really hard to put into words.. does my question make any sense!?

    1. juli says:

no i get what you’re asking, but that’s honestly really hard to say. i first listened to how my body felt but it was probably months until i saw body changes. and those body changes also had to do with not stressing as much and lifting differently. i’m sorry i can’t answer it more in depth but it definitely took some time to see physical changes

Hi, I’ve been following your blog for a couple of years now! I love your recipes, humor and most of all your workouts!! I love how strong I feel when I finish one of your workouts! I recently followed your snapchat and I love it so much!

Recently you posted a skin care post and you mentioned you were on accutane. I have been gluten free for 8 years due to an intolerance and have been strict paleo and flexible paleo on and off. I feel better eating rice and potatoes like you mentioned above, and I do allow myself lactose free dairy. With occasional regular dairy. I have been off accutane for 5 months now and had the worst side effects possible from the medication. While my acne is finally gone (tried everything from coconut oil to antibiotics (bad idea)) my body still feels like it’s repairing it’s self. Recently I got a huge cystic pimple and they’re crazy painful. It made me feel like I wasn’t alone in my acne struggle when you mentioned yours!

I was just curious as to what helped your body heal from accutane!

I really appreciate your brutal honesty in your posts!

    1. juli says:

i don’t think i had the worst side effects from accutane, i feel like i had some pretty normal ones, so i didn’t do really anything in particular to heal myself, i just kept up with what i was doing – eating healthy, working out, not stressing out about everything, and my body and skin began to heal itself. the redness took quite a while to go away, but the other side effect subsided pretty quickly. sorry if that’s not super helpful!

      1. Bailey says:

No it was! Thank you! I’m going to try your skin care routine! It looks awesome! Thanks so much for sharing!
