21DSD Creamy Green Apple Smoothie

ANOTHER green smoothie? Come on, Juli.

I’m so freaking tired. These 5am shifts are pulling me down. It’s just so early. And so dark outside. And so depressing. At least I coach some amazing people, or it would be complete hell.

So yesterday, I ran to the gym. As soon as I started running, I knew it was a bad idea. I haven’t been this sore since Regionals. And I have no idea why. I’m going lighter in weights, so I’m moving quicker through the movements and actually using my muscle correctly…so that’s probably why. Like with back squats. I suck ass at them. So now that I’m going a bit lighter, I actually use my ass in the squats. And now I feel like someone beat my ass with a baseball bat. Cool, but not really. So after I got done at the workout yesterday, I did not run home. I walked. And it got cold reaaaaaaal quick. But there was no way my legs were going to move at a quicker pace, no way. But walking is fun sometimes. You notice more weird things. And people. Like the woman in the park who was kicking at the geese. These geese, just minding their own business, and this woman is kicking her way through. Rude. Weirdo.

Want a bra story to end your work week?! OK!!

So I bought this sticky bra a few weeks back and was pumped about it. Because it just sticks to your boobs and you have to do nothing. Genius. Until you’re on the dance floor and things get sweaty. Sticky bras can get a bit slippery in that situation. Ew. Anywho, I bought this new one and opened it up to find that it was two sizes too small. Packaging idiots. Did that mean I took it back and got a new size? Hell no. I’m too lazy for that nonsense. So I wore the sticky bra that was two sizes too small with pride. No comfortably. Whatsoever. I looked the opposite of middle school memories. Instead of wearing a padded bra that was two sizes too big and the boys chanting ‘boobless’ to me, I wore one that was two sizes too small, falling down to my belly while dancing, with the boys saying nothing. Absolutely nothing. Sexy Juli 2013 is having a rough start.

Don’t you love Friday bra stories? I sure do.

If you haven’t tried the 21 Day Sugar Detox, you should. It’s awesome. And it will change how you feel about food. If you have tried it or are doing it right now, and need some recipes to keep you on track, here is a list of recipes I’ve made on my website to help me from going crazy.

That’s all I got for you for now. Have a fantastical weekend you fantastical human.

Oh, Hi! I’m Juli.

I’m a food hoarder. And a really bad dancer. If you don’t know me well, you will probably not understand my humor. Therefore, I apologize ahead of time. Thanks for listening to my ramblings of my ever-changing life and trusting my kitchen mishaps. Your trust in me is appreciated.

  1. This smoothie sounds great! I recently discovered I DETEST coconut water, but I LOVE coconut milk! Go figure?

I wish I had the 2 sizes too small problem….I’m an A cup to begin with, so to be 2 sizes too smaller would be, um, training bra maybe? =\ It does help to be smaller chested during a HIIT workout though! =)

  2. Really, really struggling with sugar cravings lately. Thanks for the recipes! And, what? SexyJuli2013 was just letting the girls have some fun for a night. #letthehatershate #freethegirls 🙂

  3. Just what I needed, a Friday bra story. I love two-sizes-too-small bras, they make the ladies look ginormous! Granted, I only buy them because I wish my boobs were two sizes smaller. Grass is always greener…like this smoothie! Yum!

  4. I might just be a big dummy but I don’t see a button for sharing/emailing your recipes anymore…am I BLIND?! I always share your recipes!!

P.S. love that you wore the bra anyway!!

  5. I had the same sticky bra problem during Halloween! I bought one for under my costume and the thing was tiny! Of course I still wore it to lazy to return it!

Will be drinking this smoothie once I get an apple and an avocado from the store tomorrow! I am excited to make the other green smoothie I just have to use my food processor because my Magic Bullet can’t handle it! 🙂

BTW I use coconut milk in my smoothies all the time! Light coconut milk of course!!

  6. Hey Juli! Im a new reader and I love your recipes and your humor 🙂 I’m doing a Paleo Challenge with my box in Little Rock AR and have been using your site religiously.. just wanted to send some love your way! Have a fun weekend :p

  7. Is the coconut milk for this recipe the canned version or the one is square boxes (in the organic section…sometimes listed as vanilla coconut milk)??

  8. i had the same sticky bra for 8 years. it lasted me through 4 years of high school recitals and musicals and 4 years of college. my best friend, mitchel, would always make fun of me for it because i never washed it and it always had weird hairs attached to it. but honestly, how do you wash that kind of thing? you don’t. you just let the sweat accumulate for years and years to the point that it just smells so bad that you must throw it out. anyway, i hope you rock your chicken cutlet bra!!!

  9. Loved the second green smoothie option, I’m always down to put a veggie in a smoothie. I had to share my newest smoothie creation, one banana, some leftover mashed sweet potatoes, almond butter (about a tablespoon) and almond milk, I added some cinnamon as well (and a bit of pumpkin pie spice). It looks like orange weirdness but tastes great. Smoothies are becoming my thing now that Im injured and trying not to get fat while I plan for surgery/recovery and accept that this will not be my year to dominate the open.

  10. I need a better blender. Your green smoothies look so much nicer than mine. Sad to say I havent had the cash to invest…. so I chew up some of that green. 😉

    ps… bras suck.

  11. I recently broke my wrist and have been forced to get real friendly with running. I still hate it. I feel your pain. Thank God it’s not as cold in NJ as it is in CO!

PS- what is your crossfit tattoo of?

  12. Hi there. Just getting into paleo. I’m a huge fan of tuna steaks. I know you’re not big on buying seafood, but I’d love to have a new recipe! I dunno bout bras, but you are frikkin hilarious! Cheers 🙂

  13. My blender is not so great so I looked up a Blendtec. Over $400? I think I just OMG’d in my pants. Yikes. I’ll have to budget a while for that 🙂 This smoothie sounds heavenly though!

  14. I made this Saturday morning, and then I drank it all day long. I was carrying it around in my green thermos. Man, this was GOOD. That green apple really made it just perfect. Mmmm!!

  15. Delicious smoothie! Though I didn’t realize until I tasted it that perhaps my lemon was on the larger side :D. I also added a bit of parsley.

My roommate is currently giving me a “wtf are you drinking there” look. Gonna make this so often now.

  16. Juli, are you familiar with the Whole30? How does the 21 Day Detox vary from W30, is it just the natural sugar in fruit?

  17. We’re blender twins! I love my Blendtec. I’m a huge advocate for green smoothies. All of the recipes on my site are totally paleo-friendly. Free of dairy, grains, processed sugar. Love your recipes– especially the muffins. Yum!

  18. This has become my favorite green smoothie! Its the only type of smoothie I drink…so this is currently my favorite smoothie!

The other day I was decided to make one after a good workout. I had all of the ingredients in the blender and I went to search for a green apple. But I didn’t have one:'( What to do?

Well I go to the hills of Carolina to buy apples once a year and make tons of homemade paleo-friendly apple sauce for the year. I just so happened to have some unthawed and used it as a substitute. Besides introducing a little pumpkin pie spice into the drink, it turned out perfect! Well not as nearly perfect as the original recipe…but close enough..

  19. Normally I don’t like avocado or spinach (I know, I know, shame on me) but this was really good! I made it for breakfast and it was the perfect start to my day! I also added a kiwi and next time I may add some banana. Keep the recipes coming!

  20. I’m just going to admit right now that in a matter of a week, I’ve made 3 batches of this smoothie. I can’t recall the last time (if ever) that I made 3 batches of a recipe in a week!

  21. I don’t have coconut milk on hand. Is there any chance that unsweetened vanilla almond milk will work as a substitute?

  22. I made this with kind of a bad attitude, thinking it would taste like grass. But it’s completely tasty! Love the green apple and coconut flavors together. Six stars.

  23. This was delightful! I am a huge fan of green smoothies, and always looking for something new and interesting. Usually I opt for berries if I put fruit in, but the green apple made this light and fresh. I’m already looking forward to the one I’m having tomorrow!

  24. Yummmm! I just want to say my boyfriend and I absolutely LOVE your blog. You’re great, thanks for all the entertaining stories and great recipes! We’re from Sydney so with some recipes (like spaghetti squash) it’s hard to make so we always improvise with something else paleo. But we have yet to make something from your site that we DON’T like. Thank you!!!!!

  25. Hey Juli! I was wicked psyched to make this today, but was out of avocados and short on spinach. I made it anyway, and loved it! I will make the real thing next time. I did an “homage” to your recipe on my blog. Thanks for all your inspiration!!
