I want to talk about acne. Mostly because it’s pissing me off and if I complain to my friends, they just get mad. So I write in my diary instead. Aka, my blog.
Acne is stupid. And no, nothing has worked. I thought long and hard about going to a naturopath, but I just can’t afford that. I spent my money on more fun things, like trips to exotic places. Instead, I choose to try to ignore the acne since there seems to be nothing I can do about. The acne is all on my jaw line now, meaning it mostly has to do with my hormones. And since I stopped lifting heavy and CrossFitting multiple times a day, my hormones have started to calm down. I’ve lost weight, my body is remembering it’s feminine, and my cystic acne has calmed A BIT. I emphasize a bit, because it’s not much. I posted this picture below the other day and people thought my face looked great. Little do they know, I have makeup on that smudges off on EVERYTHING. Like, seriously, everything. It’s disgusting. I’m astonished I have a boyfriend that will put up with that. Poor man. But I wanted to show you that I still do have plenty of acne. I’ve obviously just good at makeup, good lighting, and well, contorting my face to look like I have none. Meaning, make myself look like an idiot.
It’s like a fun house up in here.
So in conclusion, my acne is not really getting better. I just wanted this to be clear since I haven’t talked about it as much anymore. I’m trying to put my energy of hatred for my skin into other things. Like, oh I don’t know, just being happy. And loving other people. And supporting my friends.
Speaking of supporting my friends, I need your help in supporting one of my blogging friends. If you haven’t read Nom Nom Paleo, I don’t know what you’ve been doing with your extra time. I think I’m going to make a dessert for tomorrow’s post. Michelle inspired me. And being that it’s Friday, that means it’s chocolate and wine day.
PS- my boyfriend thought these tortillas tasted like pancakes. Relationships are hard. Sometimes you just must agree to disagree. And that’s that.
Boneless Pork Short Rib Breakfast Tacos
- Yield: 2-4 1x
Ingredients
For the “tortillas”
- 3 eggs, whisked
- ½ cup canned coconut milk
- 2 tablespoonscoconut flour
- pinch of salt
For the shredded pork
- 2 pounds boneless pork short ribs
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- salt, to taste
For the toppings
- 5–6 strips of bacon
- 1 (6-8 ounce) can of green chiles
- 2–3 tablespoons hot sauce (or your choice)
- chopped green onions
Instructions
- First, this recipe will start in the crockpot.
- Add short ribs to the crockpot. Pour maple syrup on top of them, along with garlic powder and salt. (I didn’t put any liquid in the crockpot because the fat will leak out and protect it from burning)
- Cook on low for 8-10 hours.
- When you wake up the next day, remove the pork ribs from the crockpot, shred them and pour some of the excess liquid from the crockpot over the shredded pork for extra flavor.
- Now make the tortillas. In a medium bowl, whisk together the tortilla ingredients until smooth.
- Place a large skilletover medium-high heat, pour ingredients into the pan to create a pancake size tortilla. I would pour on the liquid, pick up the skillet to roll it around and flatten out the tortilla even more. Cook on both sides for just about a minute per side.
- Once all your tortillas are done (this made about 8-10 tortillas for me), place bacon on the skillet or oven to cook on both sides, cool then roughly chop.
- Then mix together the green chiles and hot sauce in a bowl, place in microwave for 1:30-2:00 minutes or until hot. And then chop the green chiles.
- Now load up each tortilla. Shredded pork, green chiles, bacon, then green onions. Then eat it.
- Happy times.

Made these this last weekend…they were the bomb!!!! 🙂
The tacos look good – I have been thinking of a crepe style recipe, so I am going to give yours a try! Also I wonder about stacking a few of these up and slicing into thin strips — do you think it would make an OK substitute for pasta?
Regarding acne we have been having great results treating my son’s acne with a sulfur mask every day, and recently we have added Tincture of Milk Thistle (30 drops in a glass of water twice a day). Milk Thistle is aliver flush and after only 3 days, we can already see a great improvement! I found both of these recommendations at earthclinic.com.
Maybe! But that could be weird
I love the’ crepes as tortillas’ idea — I wonder if you stacked them and sliced them thinly how they would work as a pasta substitute?
Also, we have beenhaving *great* success treating my son’s acne with AcneFree’s sulfur mask and tincture of MilkThistle (a liver cleanse) that we bought at a health food store. We found both of these remedies on teh EarthClinic website.
Loved this recipe! I was skeptical about the tortillas but they were great. Next time I’ll use the tortilla recipe to make crepes.
Try getting your saliva tested! Works for me! Themyrtletree.com
LOVE LOVE LOVE all your recipes. It makes going Paleo so much more exciting!
… As for the acne, I have had it horribly my whole life in the same area that you do. Nothing ever worked, even prescriptions. Started using “Arbonne Clear Advantage” and it cleared me up in two weeks, every pimple GONE! And the set lasted me about 4 months, so I think price point is just on the dot!
I’m late to this conversation, but wanted to add that I have recently gone gluten and dairy free and added fermented foods (kombucha, kefir) to my diet and have had all the acne on my face, back and upper chest just vanish in a matter of weeks. Not sure which of those changes made the skin clear – but glad something worked! So glad I have found your awesome blog to add to my clean eating recipe arsenal! you and Nom, Nom Paleo keep me fueled with yummy new things to try :). Keep us posted on your acne situation. It’s an issue soooo many people deal with yet it takes some trial and error since we all have such different body chemistry. Irreverent to go with natural methods as much as possible. I work with a nutritionist who has also recommended oil of oregano to treat acne. Her website is http://www.BodyDesignsByMary.com. She’s awesome! My family is lovin’ the tacos BTW. 🙂
Talk to dr about spirinolactone. Works for my friend.
Hey girl. Acne sucks and I worked HARD at getting rid of my cystic hormonal acne (around my jawline) over the last few years. Sucks. sucks. sucks. Here are some things that have cleared me (took me years of research and of trial & error with natural products)! Vitamins: For a couple months I took 10g (that’s a crap load of pills) of B-5 (google search it – lots of people have done it to heal their acne), and a B-complex vitamin. Now only take 1g of B-5 per day and that’s all I need to maintain my clear skin. Topically, I use a cleanser and lotion that I order online from Hemp Hemp Hooray (it’s the most natural I’ve found, and I’m into that). And then I apply oil of oregano anywhere I have acne (it burns A LOT for like 5 minutes – do it before bed NEVER during the day as it stays red for hours, but then like MAGIC my acne calms right down. I HOPE THIS HELPS. Oh yeah, and I’m with Cathy about eating fermented foods (totally paleo), I’ve been making my own kimchi for the last year and it’s easy and awesome. Email me if you have any questions about acne! Oh and def use mineral makeup – otherwise you’ll just clog your pores more.
I have a friend that did some treatments where she received high dosages for vitamin A (from a specialized doctor) for 6 months what that vitamin A did was make all the oil come out of her oil ducts in her skins until they dried up and now she does not have acne till this day that was about 4 yrs ago when she did those treatments.
