I want to talk about acne. Mostly because it’s pissing me off and if I complain to my friends, they just get mad. So I write in my diary instead. Aka, my blog.
Acne is stupid. And no, nothing has worked. I thought long and hard about going to a naturopath, but I just can’t afford that. I spent my money on more fun things, like trips to exotic places. Instead, I choose to try to ignore the acne since there seems to be nothing I can do about. The acne is all on my jaw line now, meaning it mostly has to do with my hormones. And since I stopped lifting heavy and CrossFitting multiple times a day, my hormones have started to calm down. I’ve lost weight, my body is remembering it’s feminine, and my cystic acne has calmed A BIT. I emphasize a bit, because it’s not much. I posted this picture below the other day and people thought my face looked great. Little do they know, I have makeup on that smudges off on EVERYTHING. Like, seriously, everything. It’s disgusting. I’m astonished I have a boyfriend that will put up with that. Poor man. But I wanted to show you that I still do have plenty of acne. I’ve obviously just good at makeup, good lighting, and well, contorting my face to look like I have none. Meaning, make myself look like an idiot.
It’s like a fun house up in here.
So in conclusion, my acne is not really getting better. I just wanted this to be clear since I haven’t talked about it as much anymore. I’m trying to put my energy of hatred for my skin into other things. Like, oh I don’t know, just being happy. And loving other people. And supporting my friends.
Speaking of supporting my friends, I need your help in supporting one of my blogging friends. If you haven’t read Nom Nom Paleo, I don’t know what you’ve been doing with your extra time. I think I’m going to make a dessert for tomorrow’s post. Michelle inspired me. And being that it’s Friday, that means it’s chocolate and wine day.
PS- my boyfriend thought these tortillas tasted like pancakes. Relationships are hard. Sometimes you just must agree to disagree. And that’s that.
Boneless Pork Short Rib Breakfast Tacos
- Yield: 2-4 1x
Ingredients
For the “tortillas”
- 3 eggs, whisked
- ½ cup canned coconut milk
- 2 tablespoonscoconut flour
- pinch of salt
For the shredded pork
- 2 pounds boneless pork short ribs
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- salt, to taste
For the toppings
- 5–6 strips of bacon
- 1 (6-8 ounce) can of green chiles
- 2–3 tablespoons hot sauce (or your choice)
- chopped green onions
Instructions
- First, this recipe will start in the crockpot.
- Add short ribs to the crockpot. Pour maple syrup on top of them, along with garlic powder and salt. (I didn’t put any liquid in the crockpot because the fat will leak out and protect it from burning)
- Cook on low for 8-10 hours.
- When you wake up the next day, remove the pork ribs from the crockpot, shred them and pour some of the excess liquid from the crockpot over the shredded pork for extra flavor.
- Now make the tortillas. In a medium bowl, whisk together the tortilla ingredients until smooth.
- Place a large skilletover medium-high heat, pour ingredients into the pan to create a pancake size tortilla. I would pour on the liquid, pick up the skillet to roll it around and flatten out the tortilla even more. Cook on both sides for just about a minute per side.
- Once all your tortillas are done (this made about 8-10 tortillas for me), place bacon on the skillet or oven to cook on both sides, cool then roughly chop.
- Then mix together the green chiles and hot sauce in a bowl, place in microwave for 1:30-2:00 minutes or until hot. And then chop the green chiles.
- Now load up each tortilla. Shredded pork, green chiles, bacon, then green onions. Then eat it.
- Happy times.

Sooooooo completely unrelated to acne 🙂 Just want to say that the hubs and I cook your recipes about every night and of all we’ve tried, this one is our absolute favorite!!!
Just wanted to say.. Have you tried detoxing your body then slowly implementing things back into your diet? You might have a food allergy. Just a suggestion
I know you already got a lot of advice but i would like to add mine. I had hormonal acne for years due to PCOS and nothing ever worked. so my friend gave me this soap and i have never looked back.
For acne, i use african black soap. it’s plantain based and has completely stopped my cystic acne. I was amazed at how good it works. sounds odd, but i would try it. i use it in the shower and at night. I also gave it to all my acne ridden friends and it has completely stopped theirs as well. and it’s natural.
all the prescription stuff never worked and dried my skin
this is the one i use:

This is seems to be late advice- and I didn’t read through all the comments to see if this was already posted…but I’m new to paleo…and what I’ve learned is that I am “allergic” to almonds/almond butter/almond flour. About 4 hours after I eat any of the above I get 2 zits right on my left chin. I could actually set a timer for it. I happen to love the maple almond butter and will totally sacrifice a zit or 2 when I really want a spoonful!! I’ve also started doing coconut oil as my “lotion” and it is great. Helps a lot with all kinds of facial skin things! Good luck! Love all your recipes.
Hi! I’ve been baking and cooking so many of your recipes today! I’m actually about to make this for dinner tomorrow 🙂 and I was noticing the crockpot didnt have any liquid to it… Does it need anything else?? I just dont want to ruin the meat! Thanks!
If you’re using a fat cut of pork, you don’t need liquid. if you’re using a pork loin, yes
Juli, I am a chiropractor who specializes in healing with nutrition and supplements and would be happy to speak with you about helping your skin heal. Hormonal acne usually responds to getting the liver functioning efficiently. There are things you can take or eat that will help hormones metabolize properly. I think my email will be visible to you. Best of luck with it! Love you and your blog! PS. You are gorgeous, inside and out, with or without the skin troubles. 🙂
About the acne, try regulating your hormones internally. Green smoothie with chia seeds daily will help. good luck!
I HATE acne and have been battling it for 25 years! I’ve done 2 rounds of Accutane…ugh! Last year it got really bad! Cystic acne along the jawline was the worst! Right now, I love my skin…that may change but for now here’s what is working for me…and it’s very inexpensive: I was my face with Cetaphil Daily Cleanser. Then, I put water and Tea Tree Oil on a cotton ball and use it like a toner. I wear Eucerin SPF 30 lotion during the day. At night, I use Epiduo- prescribed by my derm. I don’t wear any face make-up…only blush. Stopping the face make up was the hardest!!!! But, it REALLY made the difference. There are a million things people will tell you to try and sometimes it’s just hit and miss. But, I’m always open to ideas that may clear up my acne and this has really done the trick for me. Good luck!
Decided I wanted to make Tacos tonight, and used only the recipe for Tortillas here. I didn’t use the rest of the recipe; instead I used grass fed ground beef, shredded lettuce, jalapeños, and fresh pico to fill my “shells”. I was able to get 14 shells (about the size of corn tortillas), but did double the recipe EXCEPT for the coconut flour. So I ended up using 6 eggs, 2 TBS coconut flour, 1 cup Coconut milk, and two pinches of salt. The tacos were great, and I was shocked how well these shells stayed perfectly together — even fully loaded! Husband, and non-paleo brother loved them as well.
