Tell me something – donuts or donut holes? I think it’s donut holes for me because they are more fun to eat, you can eat more of them without feeling guilty, but I think I love them the most because they are just damn adorable. I grew up STUFFING MY FACE with donuts. I was a child that ate more sugar than child services should be ok with. My mom would buy a dozen donuts for me and my friends on the swim team and I would find myself eating at least 10 of them. At least. I was in a sugar coma from ages 3-20. I really wish that age range wasn’t accurate, but it’s spot on. Get this – I asked my mom if I could have a donut when we went to the grocery store once (I think I was probably 3 or 4, I hope) and when she said we could get one after she shopped, I straight up punched her. Over a donut. My sugar addiction was so real. My mom should have put me in rehab at that point in my life, but instead she carried me to the car kicking and screaming. And people wonder why I don’t want to have kids.

So I’m obviously passionate about donuts. I’m guessing my mom ate them while I was in the womb and it’s engrained in my DNA. Do you think things work like that? Like if you ate salmon and veggies all 9 months, your child comes out a pescatarian? Being pregnant scares me for a number of reasons, but the whole craving weird things is pretty high up there. I already have pretty intense cravings for frozen yogurt and yelling at my husband when it’s that time of the month. But being pregnant is like it’s that time of the month for over 9 months. F*cking bananas. Anywho, what I’ve been trying to mention for 2738190810 years but continue to talk about having children is the fact that a little donut hole maker will change your life. It’s actually a cake pop maker but I use it for donut holes and it makes my life a life worth living. Sure, it’s a slightly pointless machine…UNTIL YOU MAKE DONUT HOLES and your whole family thinks you are a goddess. You can also make my Pancake Bites and your children will think you are the coolest mom ever. This donut hole maker is here to ensure that you’re cool. It’s here for you.

Speaking of NOT being cool – Do any of you get up before your partner and roommate and try your best to be as quiet as possible yet still somehow manage to drop and shatter a dish immediately? This is me every morning. I almost always get up before my husband, to finish my blog post for the day, but I first make my coffee. And without missing a beat, I ALWAYS drop something. Yesterday it was a spoon, today it was my frother. Once I turn on the lights a few hours later, there is always coffee droplets everywhere. It’s inevitable. We are still on the hunt for a new house and every time I mention where the coffee maker would be in relation to our bedroom. Hopefully a full floor away. Keeping this marriage together may depend on it. And if the house is located close to a froyo location.

House hunting is such an rollercoaster of emotions. And SH*T, it’s hard on the marriage. Ok, I shouldn’t say hard because there are much harder things out there (that’s what she said -Michael Scott), but it’s tough when you both want different things. I’m surprisingly easy to please (that’s what she said, ugh this is too easy today) and I would say yes to anything. I can somehow picture myself in every single house. It’s not helpful. Luckily my husband isn’t like that and actually uses his brain. He questions everything and thinks through all of it. Then a few hours later, he comes up with his answer and I’ve already moved past it since I didn’t think he loved the place. So now I’ve taught myself to not fall in love with a house because he may not love it or it may go off the market by the time we make a decision. But then he’s not sure if I actually like it because I show no emotion throughout. It’s exhausting, for both of us. And you now since you had to read that entire last paragraph.

And now that we are thinking about actually moving, I’m somehow depressed about leaving this house and this neighborhood. I love our house. And I love our neighbors…the ones who aren’t selling drugs or calling the cops on the people who don’t mow their lawns. I love all the other ones. When we bought our first house, a friend told me to not get too attached because we will probably move in the next 5 or so years. I didn’t believe her because buying a house for the first time was a nightmare with my business and because moving is what I picture hell to be like. But here we are, 5 years later. I guess it’s time to do some fall cleaning. You know what will DEFINITELY be coming with me to this new house that we will someday buy – this donut hole maker. No donut left behind.

Pregnancy is WACK. With my first, I was UBER Paleo and literally could not eat anything decent for the first month. Then I was okay and got back on the wagon. She eats nothing but carbs at the moment. LOL With my second, literally all I could eat was cheeseburgers for about 2 months. Everything else made me ill. And the whole time, I NEEDED chocolate. Constantly. It was bad. He is 2 so he eats weird shit. LOL It’s craziness.

House hunting IS emotionally draining. When we were looking we found that the second viewing was really helpful in clarifying how we felt about a house. The first walk through is usually all rainbows and unicorns, then go back a few days later and see a place with new eyes and its easier to be practical about things and weigh up the pros and cons. We knew we had found the right house when we still liked it on the second (and third) viewing. Good luck and thanks for the donut recipe!

    1. juli says:

completely agree!! we walked through the house a second time and felt the exact same about it, so that’s a good sign!!!

On your beauty counter post, you talked about loving the cleansing balm. Did it make you breakout? I just bought it and I think it’s the reason I’m breaking out now. Thanks!

    1. juli says:

My family and I loved this recipe. I don’t have a donut hole maker so I just put the dough in my donut pan and cooked it at 350 for 17-20 minutes. They were perfect! Thank you for another great recipe!!!

Totally me! I get up first, too, and the harder I try to be quiet, the more noise I make, I swear! Thankfully, he’s pretty easy going, so it’s never an issue, but I still feel so badly.

    Yum, donuts!

  6. Abby says:

Just finished making these! SO DAMN DELICIOUS!!!!! I don’t have ghee-who wants to go to the grocery store in this cold today?! So I subbed coconut oil and it worked perfectly. I also had to use a donut pan and bake them. I did 350° for 10-12 min. These definitely hit that pumpkin baked goods craving! Thanks for yet another amazing recipe, Juli!

    1. juli says:

awesome!! thank you for sharing Lana!!
