You know what may be the best feeling in the entire world? When you’re stuck in traffic, gripping your steering wheel so you don’t scream, then once it finally opens up and you slam on the gas petal because it’s the only way to release that built up stress in your body. Yep. That’s the best feeling in the world. I hate traffic.

Have you tried my Coffee Cake Banana Bread yet? It’s my favorite afternoon snack. And favorite banana bread I’ve made so far. Just thought I should voice that thought.

Yesterday was really overwhelming in my comments about finding a dog.  People pretty much demanded that I adopt a dog. People, if there is a puppy French Bulldog out there to adopt, hells yeah I’m going to adopt it. But just like how some parents want to birth their own child and raise it, I feel the same way about a dog. Minus the birthing part. Obviously it’s way harder to find an adoption shelter that just has frenchie puppies running around everywhere. But if that occurs, I promise you that I will adopt that frenchie puppy. Ok? Ok.

And I’m not changing my mind about getting a frenchie, so please feel free to stop telling me about their health issues and looking into different dogs. You don’t see me telling people to think twice about having children since I don’t like them. Just sayin.

So I’m totally obsessed with leaving Yelp reviews. I like people knowing my opinion. Obviously. But I look to Yelp all the time for other people’s reviews about restaurants and different companies I want go to, so I feel that it is my civil duty to leave my opinion for others to see. I don’t write the long reviews that you get overwhelmed with as soon as you see it, just something simple and to the point. If the place is so-so, I tend to not write a review because I don’t really care. But if it’s awesome or awful, I’m writing something. I wrote a few just yesterday. One was real bad. I think I need to get a life. Whatever.

5 from 17 reviews

  • Yield: 2-3 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups of brussels sprouts, cut in half
  • 3 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil (I used toasted sesame oil)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

For the dipping sauce

  • ½ cup 30 second mayo or Primal Kitchen
  • handful of cilantro, minced
  • 2 teaspoons curry powder (add teaspoon by teaspoon and taste it to make it to preference)
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients and coat brussels sprouts on all sides.
  3. Place brussels sprouts on a parchment paper or silpat lined baking sheet. Spread out so the brussels sprouts aren’t overlapping and can cook evenly.
  4. Place in oven and bake for 35 minutes.
  5. Once brussels sprouts are in the oven, mix together all the ingredients for the dipping sauce and place in fridge to cool.
  6. Serve crispy brussels sprouts with dipping sauce.

Re the dog, you should check out breed-specific rescue organizations (they exist!). I looked here and didn’t see any in CO, but rescue orgs will sometimes work to bring the dog to you since they just want to get good homes for their pups. And they’re constantly getting new dogs for adoption: http://www.frenchbulldogrescue.org/adoption-info/available-dogs2/

My friend drove from VA to AR to adopt her two dogs. I’m not sure I would have gone that far, but it’s possible!

Regarding the dog: I hear you! I got a lot of grief when I purchased my german shepherd from a breeder instead of adopting. I’m all for pet adoption but I knew exactly what I wanted and what would fit in my life and I didn’t find it in a shelter. Besides… the pups at breeders need good homes too! Getting my pup is one of the best decisions I ever made! If you know what you want then stick to your guns!

P.S. I love your blog and recipes. I’ve been eating the Coconut Chia pudding with leftover apple tartlets for breakfast all week! So delicious!!! Thank you!

Good for you … you should get the dog you want. I have an English Bulldog. She is smaller, only 37 lbs. She is the best dog ever. yes i have spent alot of money on her issues, but she 100% worth it. I’m so excited for you. Can’t wait to see pics.

P.S. I recently found your blog a couple of months ago and have been obsessed ever since.
    Love your recipes!

“You don’t see me telling people to think twice about having children since I don’t like them. Just sayin.” THIS!!!! Although once in a while when a drinking buddy says they’re going to start trying I may or may not say “are you sure you want to do that?” for my own selfish reasons of course.

Everybody just had a lot of opinions yesterday. And every day. You should have seen the comments on Anthropologie’s Instagram about a picture of shoes on bananas. CRAZY.

I bought a Frenchie from a breeder on New Year’s Day and I am absolutely in love with her. She is by far the best dog we’ve ever had and makes us laugh every day. Yup, she snores because of her smushed face and her farts will knock you out, but she’s amazing and I’m glad we’re getting to raise her from puppyhood. We had a TERRIBLE experience trying to adopt a dog prior to that but you don’t see me trying to make sure everybody buys their dogs. Everybody needs to do what’s best for them.

    P.S. You’re my favorite. 🙂
