You know what may be the best feeling in the entire world? When you’re stuck in traffic, gripping your steering wheel so you don’t scream, then once it finally opens up and you slam on the gas petal because it’s the only way to release that built up stress in your body. Yep. That’s the best feeling in the world. I hate traffic.
Have you tried my Coffee Cake Banana Bread yet? It’s my favorite afternoon snack. And favorite banana bread I’ve made so far. Just thought I should voice that thought.
Yesterday was really overwhelming in my comments about finding a dog. People pretty much demanded that I adopt a dog. People, if there is a puppy French Bulldog out there to adopt, hells yeah I’m going to adopt it. But just like how some parents want to birth their own child and raise it, I feel the same way about a dog. Minus the birthing part. Obviously it’s way harder to find an adoption shelter that just has frenchie puppies running around everywhere. But if that occurs, I promise you that I will adopt that frenchie puppy. Ok? Ok.
And I’m not changing my mind about getting a frenchie, so please feel free to stop telling me about their health issues and looking into different dogs. You don’t see me telling people to think twice about having children since I don’t like them. Just sayin.
So I’m totally obsessed with leaving Yelp reviews. I like people knowing my opinion. Obviously. But I look to Yelp all the time for other people’s reviews about restaurants and different companies I want go to, so I feel that it is my civil duty to leave my opinion for others to see. I don’t write the long reviews that you get overwhelmed with as soon as you see it, just something simple and to the point. If the place is so-so, I tend to not write a review because I don’t really care. But if it’s awesome or awful, I’m writing something. I wrote a few just yesterday. One was real bad. I think I need to get a life. Whatever.
Crispy Sesame Brussels Sprouts with Creamy Curry Dipping Sauce
- Yield: 2-3 1x
Ingredients
- 2 cups of brussels sprouts, cut in half
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
- 3 tablespoons sesame oil (I used toasted sesame oil)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
For the dipping sauce
- ½ cup 30 second mayo or Primal Kitchen
- handful of cilantro, minced
- 2 teaspoons curry powder (add teaspoon by teaspoon and taste it to make it to preference)
- ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients and coat brussels sprouts on all sides.
- Place brussels sprouts on a parchment paper or silpat lined baking sheet. Spread out so the brussels sprouts aren’t overlapping and can cook evenly.
- Place in oven and bake for 35 minutes.
- Once brussels sprouts are in the oven, mix together all the ingredients for the dipping sauce and place in fridge to cool.
- Serve crispy brussels sprouts with dipping sauce.

I haven’t even tried this and I’m giving it 5 stars. It can’t lose. Curry. Brussels. Mayo. UGH! YES! Trying this ASAP!
Best wishes on finding a puppy!! Love that you know what you want and aren’t letting others get you in a funk … don’t let ’em! <3
Your dog, your decision. Both have their advantages. But getting a puppy, well you won’t have to try to fix issues that are there from other human’s lack of training or even abuse. We bought a Great Dane puppy, I did a lot of research on the breed and despite the health issues that may come with him, we got him anyway. Best. decision. ever. Being it is your first dog, (I’m assuming from reading your blog over the years, that it is) just get the puppy you want! Any holes that seem to not be filled in your life will be completed by that sweet little smushed face. Happy puppy hunting!
Can’t wait to see pictures of the puppy you pick out. My sister has a frenchie, and she is the funniest most expressive dog! I swear the dog thinks she is a human. It is such a great breed, don’t let the haters knock it!!
I love brussel sprouts! I eat them several times a week. They taste like candy to me. Pairing them with a dipping sauce is an awesome idea! I don’t know how you create such amazing food pictures. They make the food look even tastier.
Can’t wait to try this recipe! Brussel sprouts have got to be my fave veggie and I’m totally new to it (year or less). I’ve been trying to incorporate more curry dishes into our weekly menu as well and boom! here you are. Thanks for ALL the awesome recipes!
Just get one from a responsible breeder and do your research. Get a pup from someone who does health testing for all possible health issues that the breed faces. Don’t buy from a pet store and be wary, some ‘rescues’ are puppy mills in disguise.
I have a rescue now but my next dog will be from a breeder due to health concerns and temperment.
I fees my dog raw and highly recommend that too- prey model raw because its what dogs are designed to eat. Dogs are carnivores and have no nutritional requirement for carbohydrates!
100% agree with you on the dog situation. It annoys me to no end how many people try to push thier opinions on you, and make you seem like the bad guy because you know what you’re looking for. I prefer to know where my puppy came from, who it’s parents are and have an expectation of how things are going to go. You don’t typically, -rarely, get that from a shelter.
Besides that, your blog is awesome and inspiring. Love your recipes and your musings!
Holy Bleep! I wanna be just like you when I grow up! Way to shut up the haters! ha!
You are killing it with the recipes these days! Can’t wait to get my hands on that new cookbook….update, please!?!? no pressure, though…; )
This looks fantastic! But Juli, any chance you could suggest anything besides curry to add to the dipping sauce? Not that curry isn’t wonderful for everyone else but I can’t bring myself to like the smell, let alone the taste.
RE: Dog; I just bought a Pug puppy from a breeder. I have always done rescue and have never had a really nicely bred Pug. This pup has some big issues from being kept as breeding stock, especially separation issues. But nonetheless, I wanted a really nicely bred Pug for the first time in my life and I LOVE her to pieces! It’s your choice- your dog, your breed of choice and totally up to you. Get what you want! I sure did and I am happy with my choice!!!
you could use smoked paprika for a more smoky flavor. or even cumin for a spicy and smoky flavor!
These were AWESOME!!! So glad I picked up some brussels sprouts yesterday. 6 tablespoons of oil seemed like a lot for just 2c of sprouts, so I cut it down and only used 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Loved them!! And the dipping sauce was perfect. I can use that stuff on everything….and just may.
haha i like mine a little more oiled down, but i totally understand! glad you liked them!
