So this little bite size idea was brought to you by an awesome reader. She emailed me with a non-paleo recipe of energy bites that were combined using oats and asked if I could come up with something! I love her. Well, oats make poop float in your bloodstream, and I personally don’t want that, so I came up with my own little version of energy bites. And they taste like heaven. Laura said she liked them because they weren’t overly sweet. I personally don’t think there is such thing as “overly sweet” but you get my flow.

OMG. I have the greatest news of the year. I caught a ball in kickball, on Tuesday. I, Juli B., caught a fly ball that a human being had kicked. Ok, if you have no idea why I think this is a big deal, you need to read some of my past posts. I don’t like balls sports. Or, really, sports in general. I like being in a kitchen. Or lifting a barbell over my head. But when a ball is flying my way, I freeze. Seriously seize up. So when a ball flew in my direction and there was no other teammate around me to take over, I had to do it. I had to put my arms out, say f*ck f*ck f*ck multiple times, and hope for the best. Luck obviously played in my favor that one play. Thank goodness or my kickball team would have thought I was even more inept than I already seem. Did I mention I have a really good looking team? Oh, I did. But seriously, wait until I get a picture for you guys, the men and women are straight up studs.

Have you watched The New Girl yet? You haven’t?! You’re dumb. It’s seriously absolutely hilarious. It’s one of those shows that you have to listen very carefully to because of all the good slip-in comments that bounce around throughout each episode. And it now has my new crushes in the newer episodes….Dermont Mulroney. F*ck he’s dreamy. Like, epic dreamy. I love him. I wish he’d wod with me.

First of all, I completely understand the whole kickball thing, we play on Wed. nights & I have to have a few NorCal margaritas before I can even attempt to make a fool of myself. I tend to run the opposite direction when the ball is coming my way… Second, OMG. anything chocolate & I’m hooked but what are you thoughts on leaving the coconut out (or substituting something else for it?) I don’t mind coconut flavor, but I cannot stand the consistency of coconut flakes or shreds. Would the balls loose their consistency, no one wants flakey balls 😉

    1. juli says:

The coconut flakes definitely help hold everything together…so you may have flakey balls BUT you could just incorporate more seeds or nuts maybe 🙂

Glad you asked that because that was my first question/concern! What is it with those stupid little flakes!

Hi Juli, you make up the best recipes! I’ve been reading your blog for a while now but this is my first time commenting. Thought I should at least say hello since I make your ‘chocolate cake in a mug’ practically every day! Can’t wait to try these too.

U read my mind….my 7 year old brought home a cookbook from his school library and we made the oat version. I was wondering how to make them paleo style. So thanks.

    New Girl IS.FUNNY.AS.SHIT! Love it.

Oh, and what’s the deal with oats making poop float in your bloodstream?

    Thanks for our kick-ass blog!

This is my favorite post ever! The use of balls cracks me up. Yes I know that makes me immature but cmon….balls! hehe

  5. Sue says:

Can’t wait to make these! But I seriously don’t understand your word “leftovers.” Leftovers? Isn’t this supposed to be consumed in one sitting? No? Damn.

And Jo, balls crack me up too! Hehe. Like snatches. Balls and snatches!!

  6. Emily says:

I heart the new girl! Keep doing what you do!

  7. Stephanie says:

Congrats on your epic catch! And poop in your blood stream?! What the heck is up with that?!

  8. Allison says:

My thoughts exactly Sue, what leftovers?

  9. Lisa says:

Haha, I got lured onto a kickball team, too! I am totally with you on the “ball sports” thing, but since a kickball isn’t that intimidating (you know, compared to a softball…which are not “soft” at all, as i’ve been knock unconscious by one in the past) a kickball is a lesser evil.

I’m going to make these balls this weekend and cross my fingers that they’ll last longer then 15 minutes 😉

    Freaking A, that looks amazing.
