You know what may be the best feeling in the entire world? When you’re stuck in traffic, gripping your steering wheel so you don’t scream, then once it finally opens up and you slam on the gas petal because it’s the only way to release that built up stress in your body. Yep. That’s the best feeling in the world. I hate traffic.
Have you tried my Coffee Cake Banana Bread yet? It’s my favorite afternoon snack. And favorite banana bread I’ve made so far. Just thought I should voice that thought.
Yesterday was really overwhelming in my comments about finding a dog. People pretty much demanded that I adopt a dog. People, if there is a puppy French Bulldog out there to adopt, hells yeah I’m going to adopt it. But just like how some parents want to birth their own child and raise it, I feel the same way about a dog. Minus the birthing part. Obviously it’s way harder to find an adoption shelter that just has frenchie puppies running around everywhere. But if that occurs, I promise you that I will adopt that frenchie puppy. Ok? Ok.
And I’m not changing my mind about getting a frenchie, so please feel free to stop telling me about their health issues and looking into different dogs. You don’t see me telling people to think twice about having children since I don’t like them. Just sayin.
So I’m totally obsessed with leaving Yelp reviews. I like people knowing my opinion. Obviously. But I look to Yelp all the time for other people’s reviews about restaurants and different companies I want go to, so I feel that it is my civil duty to leave my opinion for others to see. I don’t write the long reviews that you get overwhelmed with as soon as you see it, just something simple and to the point. If the place is so-so, I tend to not write a review because I don’t really care. But if it’s awesome or awful, I’m writing something. I wrote a few just yesterday. One was real bad. I think I need to get a life. Whatever.
Crispy Sesame Brussels Sprouts with Creamy Curry Dipping Sauce
- Yield: 2-3 1x
Ingredients
- 2 cups of brussels sprouts, cut in half
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
- 3 tablespoons sesame oil (I used toasted sesame oil)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
For the dipping sauce
- ½ cup 30 second mayo or Primal Kitchen
- handful of cilantro, minced
- 2 teaspoons curry powder (add teaspoon by teaspoon and taste it to make it to preference)
- ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients and coat brussels sprouts on all sides.
- Place brussels sprouts on a parchment paper or silpat lined baking sheet. Spread out so the brussels sprouts aren’t overlapping and can cook evenly.
- Place in oven and bake for 35 minutes.
- Once brussels sprouts are in the oven, mix together all the ingredients for the dipping sauce and place in fridge to cool.
- Serve crispy brussels sprouts with dipping sauce.

I used to petsit a ton, and the whole “breeder versus rescue” with regards to health and behavior is BS. Buy a dog from a good breeder or a rescue, then train it properly and you will be fine.
I used to be a “rescue snob” and rolled my eyes at purebreds, but some of the most wonderful dogs I watched were very expensive purebreds. Good luck with your search.
I (SORT OF) understand wanting to stick to your guns on the puppy thing, but I think there was a much more graceful way to handle it. There are miles between ‘wanting to birth your own child’ and potentially supporting puppy mills. But I will pre-emptively take the advice I imagine is coming, and stop reading here. Best of luck, Juli.
glad you let me know you are unfollowing me, Julie.
Everyone’s a hater when it comes to things you “should” or “shouldn’t” do. Especially when it comes to getting a dog. WHY ALL THE DAMN DISCOURAGEMENT? It makes me think that there are a lot of people out there who resent their dogs and wish they’d never gotten them. Is having a dog difficult? Yeah, sometimes it’s a bit of a pain in the ass. Is having a dog emotional? Yeah, sometimes I feel real bad when I leave Charlie for 16 hour work days. But it’s certainly none of my business, or anyone else’s for that matter, to be like “NO JULI, DON’T DO ITTTTT!!!!’ Or, “THIS IS HOW YOU SHOULD DO ITTT!!!!”
YOLO, girl. Get that Frenchie and love it to pieces. All that matters is you take good care of the dog and treat him/her well.
Sorry…just hate when people discourage others like that 🙁
Loved your comment about kids! Drives your point home! I’m a huge pug lover and have had one my entire life, so I understand about wanting a specific breed. I’ve been lucky that I’ve been able to rescue a couple after they were done breeding but that was bc I didn’t want a puppy. Good luck finding a cutie!
I love your blog.
Roll eyes. Get whatever dog you want. People are silly. Purebred dogs from awesome breeders need homes too.
Lol. I did not read any comments from yesterday but liked how you stuck to your guns in this post. 🙂
As a breeder-purchased-dog-owner (that was lengthy), I support getting the dog you want. I wanted a miniature schnauzer because I have dog allergies and schnauzers don’t shed, and couldn’t find a rescue that would let me adopt bc I was young, so I found a reputable breeder, met the breeder and the mama dog, and bought the dog I wanted. That was almost 5 years ago and despite her coming from a breeder, my schnauzie is seriously the best dog in the world! Just do what’s best for you, and as long as you’re a good dog mom, the rest doesn’t matter 🙂
Also, I have a bag of brussels in my fridge and I am totally making this recipe tonight… can’t wait!!
We are the proud parents of a 4 month old pup after having to put down our 17 1/2 year old border the week before Christmas. I’ve been so far out of the puppy loop for so long – I’d forgotten how much work they are – but well worth it. Between telling the poor little guy “no” every other word because everything goes in the mouth, to trying to get him outside for potty training in the Wisconsin winter – these memories are precious. Good luck on your search – and when you find him/her, he/she will be lucky to have you as a doggie mom.

Hahaha that’s one of the reasons we are trying to get one in the summer
I’m not sure if this was answered above and I’m too lazy to look. What if I have frozen brussel sprouts? (Hence, laziness). Should I cook them first and then throw them in with all the deliciousness or would frozen work? Stupid question?
i’m not sure how frozen ones would do but i wouldn’t know why they wouldn’t work! probably still toss them in the oil before cooking
