You know what may be the best feeling in the entire world? When you’re stuck in traffic, gripping your steering wheel so you don’t scream, then once it finally opens up and you slam on the gas petal because it’s the only way to release that built up stress in your body. Yep. That’s the best feeling in the world. I hate traffic.
Have you tried my Coffee Cake Banana Bread yet? It’s my favorite afternoon snack. And favorite banana bread I’ve made so far. Just thought I should voice that thought.
Yesterday was really overwhelming in my comments about finding a dog. People pretty much demanded that I adopt a dog. People, if there is a puppy French Bulldog out there to adopt, hells yeah I’m going to adopt it. But just like how some parents want to birth their own child and raise it, I feel the same way about a dog. Minus the birthing part. Obviously it’s way harder to find an adoption shelter that just has frenchie puppies running around everywhere. But if that occurs, I promise you that I will adopt that frenchie puppy. Ok? Ok.
And I’m not changing my mind about getting a frenchie, so please feel free to stop telling me about their health issues and looking into different dogs. You don’t see me telling people to think twice about having children since I don’t like them. Just sayin.
So I’m totally obsessed with leaving Yelp reviews. I like people knowing my opinion. Obviously. But I look to Yelp all the time for other people’s reviews about restaurants and different companies I want go to, so I feel that it is my civil duty to leave my opinion for others to see. I don’t write the long reviews that you get overwhelmed with as soon as you see it, just something simple and to the point. If the place is so-so, I tend to not write a review because I don’t really care. But if it’s awesome or awful, I’m writing something. I wrote a few just yesterday. One was real bad. I think I need to get a life. Whatever.
Crispy Sesame Brussels Sprouts with Creamy Curry Dipping Sauce
- Yield: 2-3 1x
Ingredients
- 2 cups of brussels sprouts, cut in half
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
- 3 tablespoons sesame oil (I used toasted sesame oil)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
For the dipping sauce
- ½ cup 30 second mayo or Primal Kitchen
- handful of cilantro, minced
- 2 teaspoons curry powder (add teaspoon by teaspoon and taste it to make it to preference)
- ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients and coat brussels sprouts on all sides.
- Place brussels sprouts on a parchment paper or silpat lined baking sheet. Spread out so the brussels sprouts aren’t overlapping and can cook evenly.
- Place in oven and bake for 35 minutes.
- Once brussels sprouts are in the oven, mix together all the ingredients for the dipping sauce and place in fridge to cool.
- Serve crispy brussels sprouts with dipping sauce.

So is it the parchment paper that makes them crispy? I’ve never been able to get my brussels sprouts as crispy as I would like them.
Nope, just hot enough temperatures and oil
does avocado oil go bad? if so do you know the shelf life? thanks!
No clue
We bought our papillion from a pet store (gasp). Best decison ever! Awesome dog, super smart and we were able to train her ourselves. Fastforward 3 years and we took in a friends dog who could no longer keep her. She was over a year and not house trained… huge issues unlearning all her bad habits. She has learned most of her manners now at the expense of my carpet… adoption isnt all happy puppies and roses.
Hey, question – Your mayo… Is there any way I could make a mayo without eggs? I highly doubt this is possible, but I know you’re KIND OF A GENIUS when it comes to making deliciousness, so I thought I would ask 🙂
not that i know of but you should google it and see what you can find!
About the dog. I would highly recommend finding a female of whatever breed you want. Far easier to deal with. As an example, I’m on my fifth Airedale Terrorist. This one year old is the first male. Holy cow is he ever a hand full!
I am not going to tell you not to get a Frenchie. I have two and they are the joys of my life! I highly recommend it and no health issues here. My brother in law has their sister also completely healthy, happy and wonderfully adorable and cute!
Juli – I’m not sure if someone has mentioned this already, but we adopted our Frenchie from the French Bulldog Rescue Network. They have dogs that need homes in almost every state, so if you are serious about adoption, it might be worth taking a peak at their website. I would also recommend pet insurance, especially for FB’s!!
Frenchies are very fun dogs! I normally don’t comment but dogs are my area of expertise (I am a trainer) so I thought I would share this great resource. Dr. Ian Dunbar makes his “Before You Get Your Puppy” book available FREE on his Dog Star Daily site. Also, I believe his “After You Get Your Puppy” book is free as well. There are so many great resources available today for dog owners – much different than 20 years ago.
Here is the link to the “Before” book: http://www.dogstardaily.com/training/you-get-your-puppy
Also, finding a good puppy class can be hugely helpful – I’m sure you can find a good one in your area. If you don’t know of a trainer you can find one on this trainer search: http://www.apdt.com/petowners/ts/default.aspx
We got pet insurance on our younger 3 dogs and so far I have been *very* pleased – I’m glad we did it. Highly recommend it.
Have fun! And thanks for all the great recipes :).
Would you believe I came here looking for a brussels sprouts recipe AND a banana bread recipe and found them both in this one post? Yay! Anyway, I’ve just made the brussels sprouts, and they are delicious!!! My husband loved them, too. Can’t wait to make the coffee cake banana bread — sounds yummy.
Good luck finding your dog — he/she will be one lucky pup!
I just made these as a snack today with the homemade mayo + herbs and spices. Amazing! My husband and I are less than 1 week into trying the Paleo dishes we’ve found online, and your blog is – by far – our favorite. Thank you so much for being a great resource as we start this new adventure! We’re trying to get our 7 year old on board, too. He didn’t try the brussels sprouts, but he helped to make them! Maybe next time he’ll take the next step. 😉
